Captain Allan Maybee from Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, and his Co-Captain Rick (Maybee) Bressler from Sacramento, California, successfully completed the "Sea tothe Source" Sacramento River Expedition on April 22. This was the first documented, continual run, voyage on the Sacramento River completed on two Personal Water Craft (PWC's). In total, 420 miles over 4 consecutive days from the Pacific Ocean to the Source of the river were covered.
Entering California under the Golden Gate Bridge the two brothers navigated their craft through the dense fog, high waves, and busy commercial traffic common to the San Francisco Bays. Passing under the many bridges they found the mouth of the Sacramento River and traveled West into the heart of the California Delta, with its diverse bird and wildlife habitats. Piloting the two jet boats through Old Town Sacramento the pair headed North into the Central Valley's bountiful agricultural area and then up into the canyons between Red Bluff and Redding. Intense concentration was needed to avoid the hazards of snags and debris in the swift currents, gravel bars, and the many rocks and rapids.
